Davis
and I were invited to join our close friends, Tom and Wesley
Parnelle and Kevin and Seth Hartley, for a father and son fishing
trip with Jay. All six of us spent the night at Jay's home, woke
up just before dawn to some sausage biscuits from the local
Hardee's, then headed out to Clarks Hill
Reservoir (Lake Strom Thurmond).
This was only the second time I had gone fishing for striper and
hybrid bass, and Davis' first attempt. From the first stop that
morning when Davis reeled in the first fish (1.5 pound white
bass), to the last fish (30 in
all!) we put in the cooler before heading back in around lunch
time, we were both hooked! Jay was an excellent host and guide,
had a contagious laugh and sense of humor, and was very effective
in locating the best fishing spots to guarantee a large
catch. Perhaps the real secret to Jay's success was his pounding
out some sort of tribal drum beat on the floor of the boat using a
broken off paddle to insure fishing success?
We all had a wonderful time together, greatly enjoyed getting to
know Jay,
and now can enthusiastically recommend Jay Leatherman and Stripers
Unlimited for your next fishing trip.
